But here’s the Top 10 News You shouldn’t miss about Batu Kawan.

1. Penang 2nd Bridge
Penang second Bridge, also known as Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, connecting Island Batu Maung and Mainland Batu Kawan(Bandar Cassia). The total length of the bridge is 24km, making it the longest in SouthEast Asia. Completed on 2012, it is said to split the burden of Penang First bridge. However, due to lack of development over Batu Kawan, the main population is still concentrate on Penang First Bridge.

2. Batu Kawan is a Part of PTMP(Penang Transport Master Plan)
Believe it or not, Penang State Government have taken every steps of future growth into consideration and proudly to say that Batu Kawan is the part of PTMP.
These ongoing developments in Batu Kawan townships has intensified with the opening of the Penang Second Bridge. The proposed BRT system is to link the mixed industrial-commercial and residential townships to the nearest KTM station at Simpang Ampat and also the Raja Uda–Bkt Mertajam monorail which terminates at Permatang Tinggi.
The proposed BRT line can potentially be extended to other areas:
- From Permatang Tinggi northwards to Seberang Jaya to serve the Permatang Pauh and Bukit Minyak catchment (including Universiti Teknologi Mara or UITM and Politeknik SeberangPerai); and also interchange with the Raja Uda–Bukit Mertajam Monorail. Refer Map
- From Batu Kawan southwards to Nibong Tebal to serve the planned townships at Byram Changkat and interchange with KTM Komuter at Nibong Tebal. Refer MapSimilarly, these identified transit corridors can be reserved as part of the State’s planning process.
3. Batu Kawan Industrial Park
Batu Kawan Industrial Park is an industrial park in Batu Kawan, Seberang Perai. It is located on the south side of the Penang 2nd Bridge.
It is all located under the shaded cream of the area.
4. Batu Kawan is 2nd Penang Island.
Batu Kawan is surrounded by Jawi River towards Tengah River which makes it an Island Itself. Surprise!! Here’s the picture below to show how exactly it is an island. Some say Batu Kawan is P2, which is another Penang Island.
5. One Auto Hub & University of Hull
One Auto Hub is a 2,000,000 sq.ft. commercial development by PKT Logistic Group in Batu Kawan, Penang.
Stategically located on the right side of the highway, this development comprises a few commercial components, which includes The 12 Waves (Warehouse), The Ship Campus (University), The Lighthouse Lodge (Premium B&B), The Automotive Boulevard, Part Centre, The Mangrove Walk & Wildlife Sanctuary. One Auto Hub is slated to emerge as one of the largest automotive logistics providers in the country to cater to the needs of the automotive industry under the purview of the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority.
The ship campus is the University of Hull itself. With RM130 Millions invested by PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd, a total logistic solutions provider, University of Hull will setup its first franchised branch campus in Batu Kawan, with completion targeted in three years. Tio, the company’s chief executive, said the branch would be called The Ship Campus as it was designed like a ship and able to accommodate about 5,000 students.
6.Aspen vision City & Ikea

7.Paramount Utropolis & KDU University College

With over 150 stores planned in 400,00 sqft outletmall, Design Village offers a whole new Shopping Experience in tropical garden, with sheltered walkway and captivating jewel boxes. The confirmed tenants so far are: Hugo Boss, Armani Exchange, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Esprit, Samsonite, and Starbucks.
9. Affordable Housing
Strategically located in Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan, Hijau E-Komuniti is one of the largest masterplanned development project in Penang. A long term development envisioned to be a sustainable township, Hijau E-Komuniti will be implemented in stages throughout multiple phases. This Affordable Housing involve 5 phases.

10. Columbia Asia Hospital
Columbia Asia, a chain of hospitals in Asia, is investing RM185 million to construct and operate the first hospital in Batu Kawan.
The Purchase and Development Agreement take place between Columbia Asia and Aspen Group and Ikano Pte Ltd. After the first IKEA store, Columbia Asia Hospital is another international brand that’ll set foot on Batu Kawan MetroPolis under gross development of RM8 Billion, is expected to be completed in 2025.
