The Second Penang Bridge, the longest bridge in Southeast Asia is 24 km in length and cost RM4.5 billion to build it.
The bridge connects from Batu Kawan on the mainland and Batu Maung on the island. It is name after a Royal name Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah. Hence, Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah.

- The Bridge is curved on purpose to help reduce traffic accidents by discourage speeding.
- Beijing-based China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd (CHEC) won the main contract for the first package, which included the bridge and foundation works.
- The second major package which included structures for the approaches to the bridge was constructed by UEM Builders Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of local conglomerate UEM Group.
- Initially, there were plans for two viewing platform along with restaurants, but the plan was later scrapped due to lack of funds.
- The project commenced in November 2008 and completed in April 2013.
